the path that does not run away but embraces our suffering is the path that will lead us to liberation
Irene is a wise beyond her year’s yoga teacher. Her knowledge of anatomy and physiology inform her practice. She gently leads to the intersection of emotional and physical, allowing one to accept how much of that we are willing to work with. No judgment, much humor , a recognition of human strength and frailty, profound intelligence, both intellectual and intuitive , a commitment to teaching how to help ones body heal , all of these qualities combine in a rare teacher. She has taught me much.

Understanding trauma, stress, and emotions
Many of the daily "symptoms" or limitations to thriving that we experience can be understood through the lens of a chronically dysregulated nervous system, sometimes called a chronic stress response.
The nervous system's job is to keep you safe and functioning. It's mission is to process information and protect you. The thing is, we are so overloaded with things the nervous system tries to protect us from, that protection mode may be keeping you from the healing that is your birthright.
When we experience any kind of trauma, whether specific events or ongoing stress, our brains and bodies respond with heightened activity.
Now, what might this look like?
-lack of a sense of belonging, purpose, or focus
Without developing self-regulating coping tools to balance out that heightened activity, we look for things outside ourselves to soothe our pains. This creates attachments to external soothing that can very easily become dependency or distracting behavior patterns standing in the way of wellness.
Now, what might this actually look like?
-sexual disinterest and/or compulsion
-attention difficulties (ADD and ADHD)
-restrictive eating and/or binge eating
-social anxiety/perception of other people as "unsafe"
-anxious attachment and/or self-isolating
We all have different roots to these different pains. We all have different intersections of how external pressures, power, and belief systems have been internalized in ways that keep us unwell.
The concept of healing is not a "do this and you'll be good to go" kind of thing. True healing is a lifelong practice of learning ourselves, and learning to truly love ourselves.
Healing is a practice of being that will carry you through your whole life.
The beauty of being human is that you already have the tools you need for healing, both in your body and in your mind. You have all that you need for healing in your innate capacity for connection.
The beauty of yoga therapy is that it introduces you to those very tools in a way that empowers you to carry them forward for the rest of your healing life.
